# Multimedia recommendations for templates

> Dimensions, formats, and design best practices for images, videos, and documents in WhatsApp templates.

To ensure WhatsApp templates display correctly, Meta recommends the following dimensions and formats based on content type.

## Image

| Standard | 800 × 418 px           | 1.91:1       |
| Carousel | 800 × 800 px           | 1:1          |

* **Max file size:** 5 MB
* **Supported formats:** JPG and PNG

## Video

* **Recommended aspect ratio:**
  * 16:9 (landscape)
  * 9:16 (portrait)
* **Max file size:** 15 MB
* **Supported format:** MP4

## Document

Documents do not require specific dimensions, as WhatsApp only displays the file icon and name.

* **Max file size:** 15 MB
* **Supported format:** PDF

## Design recommendations

### Keep a safe zone

Avoid placing text, logos, or important information too close to the image edges, as some devices may apply automatic cropping.

### Use lightweight images

Although Meta allows files up to 5 MB, optimizing images is recommended to improve campaign loading speed and delivery.

### Avoid too much text

Images with excessive text tend to generate less interaction and can affect the user's visual experience.

### Maintain visual consistency

For carousel templates, it is recommended to:

* Use the same size across all images
* Keep a consistent visual style
* Avoid mixing landscape and portrait images

### Consider dark mode

Some users use WhatsApp in dark mode, so it is recommended to:

* Avoid dark text on transparent backgrounds
* Maintain good contrast
* Ensure logos and icons remain visible
