# Numbers and the ElevenLabs channel

> Provision a phone number by activating an ElevenLabs channel with SIP trunk or Twilio, and assign it an agent.

The phone number your agent uses to receive and place calls is provisioned by activating an **ElevenLabs channel**. You add it like any other channel in your project, from **Add channel**.

<Frame caption="ElevenLabs option in the Add channel menu">
  <img src="https://mintcdn.com/jelouai/AQag8di7NYjLixU_/assets/images/voice/agregar-canal-elevenlabs.png?fit=max&auto=format&n=AQag8di7NYjLixU_&q=85&s=e13289876f7dead50f7ad5af8ee5a045" alt="Add channel menu expanded showing Instagram, X (Twitter), ElevenLabs, Slack, Microsoft Teams, and Custom, alongside the WhatsApp, Web, and Facebook channels" width="707" height="493" data-path="assets/images/voice/agregar-canal-elevenlabs.png" />
</Frame>

<Note>
  If what you want is to enable calling on a WhatsApp number you already have, the path is different and you don't need to provision a new number. See [WhatsApp calling](/en/guides/voice/whatsapp).
</Note>

## Step 1: name the channel

The first step asks only for the **channel name**, up to 50 characters. It's the name you'll recognize it by in your channel list.

</Frame>

## Step 2: choose where the number comes from

The second step provisions the number and leaves it ready for you to assign a voice agent to it.

The first thing you choose is the **number provider**, and from there four different paths open up. The choice matters because it determines **which infrastructure the number lives on**: it can sit in Jelou's ElevenLabs account, in your own Twilio account, or be routed through your own SIP trunk.

<Tabs>
  <Tab title="SIP trunk">
    You enter the **phone number** with its country code.

    Optionally you can enable **Own SIP trunk**, which routes outbound calls through your own SIP trunk. Enabling it asks for:

    | Field            | Content                                                    |
    | ---------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------- |
    | **SIP address**  | Your trunk's address, in the `sip:user@domain.com` format. |
    | **SIP user** | The authentication user. |
    | **SIP password** | The password, hidden by default. |
    | **Transport** | The transport protocol, for example TLS. |

    <Frame caption="SIP trunk with own trunk enabled">
      <img src="https://mintcdn.com/jelouai/AQag8di7NYjLixU_/assets/images/voice/activar-canal-sip-trunk-propia.png?fit=max&auto=format&n=AQag8di7NYjLixU_&q=85&s=2adb3adcff6453e18691b541cfb440ce" alt="Step 2 with SIP trunk selected and the Own SIP trunk toggle enabled, showing the SIP address, SIP user, SIP password, and Transport fields" width="562" height="976" data-path="assets/images/voice/activar-canal-sip-trunk-propia.png" />
    </Frame>

    <Tip>
      Use your own trunk if you already have a telephony contract you want to leverage, or if you need outbound calls to present an identifier you already control.
    </Tip>
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Twilio · Jelou account">
    You provision on Jelou's infrastructure, with no need for a Twilio account of your own.

    You filter by **Country** and use the **Contains** field to search by digits or letters. The list shows the available numbers with their city and their rate, so you see the cost before choosing.

    </Frame>
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Twilio · My credentials">
    You provision on your own Twilio account. It asks for:

    | Field                  | Content                                         |
    | ---------------------- | ----------------------------------------------- |
    | **Twilio Account SID** | Your account identifier, in the `AC...` format. |
    | **Twilio Auth Token** | The authentication token, hidden by default. |
    | **Phone number** | The number with its country code. |

    <Frame caption="Twilio with your own credentials">

    </Frame>
  </Tab>
</Tabs>

### Inbound agent

On every path, the last field is the **inbound agent**: the default agent that answers inbound calls on that number. You can leave it on **No agent** and assign it later.

<Frame caption="SIP trunk without an own trunk">
  <img src="https://mintcdn.com/jelouai/AQag8di7NYjLixU_/assets/images/voice/activar-canal-sip-trunk.png?fit=max&auto=format&n=AQag8di7NYjLixU_&q=85&s=553c21ae34f27b19ee130687d75efe64" alt="Step 2 with SIP trunk selected, the phone number, the own-trunk toggle off, and the Inbound agent selector set to No agent" width="582" height="701" data-path="assets/images/voice/activar-canal-sip-trunk.png" />
</Frame>

Confirm with **Create channel** to finish.

## Channel configuration

Once created, the channel configuration screen brings together everything you can review and change. At the top it shows two identifiers ready to copy: the **channel ID** and the **number ID** (in the `phnum_...` format).

<Frame caption="Configuration of an existing channel">
  <img src="https://mintcdn.com/jelouai/AQag8di7NYjLixU_/assets/images/voice/configuracion-canal.png?fit=max&auto=format&n=AQag8di7NYjLixU_&q=85&s=8965f2aa7b101c456b90b3772b7ffba5" alt="Channel configuration screen with the number provider, the phone number, the Test call button, the per-minute cost, the Answering agent selector, and the Delete channel section" width="1844" height="758" data-path="assets/images/voice/configuracion-canal.png" />
</Frame>

**Answering agent** is the field that connects the two pieces: it defines the voice agent that handles inbound calls on that number.

<Warning>
  While the field is set to **No agent**, the number does not answer inbound calls.
</Warning>

### Test call

The **Test call** button lets you validate the agent before publishing.

<Warning>
  The test call dials a real number and consumes credits like any other outbound call. It appears in the [call log](/en/guides/voice/calls) alongside production calls.
</Warning>

### Rates

The per-minute cost is shown in the channel configuration itself, and also next to each number when you pick it:

| Item           | Base rate      |
| -------------- | -------------- |
| Number rental  | 1.15 USD/month |
| Inbound calls  | 0.0085 USD/min |
| Outbound calls | 0.014 USD/min  |

<Note>
  Each call's consumption is deducted in **credits** and recorded in the Calls tab.
</Note>

### Deleting the channel

If you no longer need the number, you can delete the channel from the same screen.

<Warning>
  Deleting a channel cannot be undone. The number stops receiving calls.
</Warning>
