A WhatsApp username is a unique identifier that starts with the @ symbol (for example, @MyBusiness). It allows customers to find you or start a conversation without needing to know your phone number, helping keep it private.
This is an optional feature that Meta is gradually enabling for all WhatsApp Business accounts.

Benefits of using a username

Having a username offers several advantages for your business:
  • Provides an easy-to-remember identifier to share.
  • Protects your phone number privacy.
  • Makes it easier for new customers to find your business.
  • Strengthens your brand identity within WhatsApp.
  • The username is unique and cannot be used by another account.

Can it be changed or removed?

Yes. The username can be modified or removed at any time.
When you remove or change it, the previous name may become available for another user to register.

How to create your username

If you are a Jelou customer, you can complete this process directly from the platform or contact your CSM for assistance with the setup.
The setup is done directly from the WhatsApp Manager within Meta Business Manager.
1

Open WhatsApp Manager

Go to WhatsApp Manager in Meta Business Manager.
2

Access Phone Numbers

Select Account Tools and then Phone Numbers.
3

Select your number

Choose the number you want to configure.
4

Open the Profile tab

Navigate to the Profile tab.
5

Create your username

Click Create username, enter your desired name, and save it.
Once approved by Meta, the username will be associated with that WhatsApp Business number.

Important considerations

  • Each account can only have one unique username.
  • Some names are reserved by Meta for businesses, government agencies, or public figures.
  • Name availability depends on whether it has been previously registered.
  • The feature is being rolled out gradually, so it may not yet be available for all WhatsApp Business accounts.
