Introduction

The Web channel allows you to integrate a chat widget on your website so your customers can communicate with you directly from your page.

Prerequisites

Before activating the Web channel, make sure you have:
  • An active Jelou account
  • Access to your website’s source code
  • Permissions to add scripts to your website

Basic configuration

Step 1: Channel name

The channel name must meet the following requirements:
  • Minimum 4 characters: The name must have at least 4 characters
  • Maximum 50 characters: It cannot exceed 50 characters
  • Descriptive: Use a name that clearly identifies the channel
Choose a descriptive name that helps you easily identify the channel, for example: “Web - Main Site” or “Web - Customer Portal”.

Step 2: Select integration

Choose the type of integration you want to use for this channel:
  • Bot: Connect the channel to an automated bot project
  • Agent: Connect the channel directly to a human agent

Step 3: Select project or agent

Depending on the type of integration selected:
  • If you chose Bot: Select the bot project you want to connect the channel to
  • If you chose Agent: Select the agent who will handle conversations on this channel
The option to select an agent is not available for companies of the SMB type (small and medium-sized businesses).

Restrictions for self-service companies

Companies with self-service accounts have access to the Web channel according to the platform’s feature flag configuration. If you do not see the Web option available, contact your administrator or the Jelou support team.

Validations

The system automatically validates:
  • Name length: Verifies that the name is between 4 and 50 characters
  • Required fields: Ensures that all required fields are complete before continuing
If there is any validation error, you will see a help message indicating what you need to correct.

Widget installation

Once the basic configuration is complete, you will receive an installation code that you must add to your website:
  1. Copy the provided installation code
  2. Paste the code before the closing </body> tag on your website
  3. Save the changes and publish your site
Make sure to install the code on all pages where you want the chat widget to appear.

Customization

After installation, you will be able to customize:
  • Widget colors and styles
  • Welcome message
  • Widget position on the page
  • Availability schedules

Next steps

Once configuration and installation are complete:
  1. Test the widget on your website
  2. Configure automatic responses
  3. Customize the bot or agent behavior
  4. Start receiving and managing conversations
Perform thorough tests of the widget before launching it to production to ensure an optimal experience for your users.
